The International Monetary Fund expects global growth for 2020 to be lower than the 2.9% rate for 2019 and the revised forecasts will be issued in the coming weeks, the International Monetary Fund Director Christina Georgieva said at a press conference today.

Georgieva added that “global growth in 2020 will decrease from the levels of last year, but to what extent it will decrease and for how long the impact is difficult to predict since the global spread of the new Corona virus will erase any hope for stronger growth in 2020.”

Georgieva and World Bank President David Malpas emphasized the importance of coordinated action to reduce the economic and humanitarian impacts of the virus, and said that the International Monetary Fund provides $ 50 billion in emergency financing that includes low-interest, interest-free loans that can help poor countries with weak health systems to cope with the virus .
